To continue the journey, Memo Paris loves the company of artists, author and illustrator, who let their imagination wander according to the landscape.

Blandine Pannequin: She is a young illustrator who graduated from ESAG Penninghen in 2015, whose style artfully combines blocks of colour with deliberate lines, where every detail counts. She imbued Flåm with all the poetic warmth the eponymous Nordic village inspires.

Catherine Pont-Humbert: She is a writer, literary journalist, and a creator of musical readings; she also worked as a producer for France Culture from 1990 to 2010. She recently published Carnets de Montréal [Travel Diaries from Montreal] released by Du Passage (2016) and we wanted to have her write a tale of another destination shining bright under the Northern Lights.

Fjord and tonka sparkle

Lining the little port of Flåm, the crimson cottages are flushed in the cheeks! Every day, they delight in the spectacle of their singular, Nordic environment, traced by the fjords. The red-hot name of this Norwegian village keeps them warm, this village tickled by contrasts, that embraces opposites, from bitter orange to tonka beans. Flåm is nestled on the road that crosses the majestic glacial valleys, where the lingering memories of Viking ships gliding through its waters remain. Cedar essence. Steeped in the hypnotic charm of scenery turned blue by wintertime. Clary sage. Once the fair weather returns, revealing a lush valley in endless hues, with the waterfalls singing in the background. Bergamot and sambac jasmine. The landscape becomes all the more intense upon entering the depths of the fjord, where the sea meets freshwater. The heart of Flåm beats. Pure vanilla.

Focus

Tonka bean

Sustainably cultivated by a network of growers in Venezuela, the Tonka beans are harvested between April and May, and then dried to release the odorous molecule coumarin that gives them their special olfactory qualities, delicately herbaceous with hints of vanilla and caramel. Tonka bean resin is obtained by extraction to give fullness to the ingredients.
